Y.E.S. Academy at Southwestern College

Y.E.S. (Youth Excellence and Success) Academy provides options for families to enroll their entering 4th-12th grade student(s) into a variety of summer academic and enrichment courses. Each course provides students with a new and unique experience into a college atmosphere that promotes a well-rounded opportunity to learn through instruction and experiential learning. Y.E.S. Academy fosters each student’s ability to learn, grow, and develop their own pathways for success.  

Y.E.S. Academy will be offering remote courses in summer 2021!

Y.E.S. Academy Summer 2021 Program Dates:
Session I: June 21 - July 1, 2021 (M-Th)
Session II: July 6 - July 15, 2021 (M-Th)
AM and PM courses times available

CFK Students

College for Kids

Entering 4th-9th grade students

(Remote for summer 2021) Challenging & enriching courses that allow students to learn new skills and concepts through projects, practice, and hands-on experiences. Students enrolled in College for Kids courses must meet one of the following: identified as GATE; have a B or 2.8 average; or be recommended using the Y.E.S. Academy Recommendation Form.

Sally Ride Science

Entering 4th-9th grade students

(Remote for summer 2021) In partnership with UCSD Extension, this unique take on STEAM education provides opportunties for all students entering 4th-9th grade involving Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM).

New! Career Exploration

High school students and select grade levels

(Virtual event(s) for summer 2021) Our newest addition to Y.E.S. Academy! Career exploration courses offer students a new perspective into various career fields, and the possibilities of their future.

SAT Prep Boot Camp

High School Students

(Not offered in summer 2021) SAT Prep Boot Camp, offered in partnership with UCSD Extension, provides 16 hours of strategies and skills to help improve SAT test outcomes.

Writer's Cafe Lunch Supervison

Open to all Y.E.S. Academy Students

(Not offered in summer 2021) Made to bridge the gap between morning and afternoon courses, Writer's Cafe allows for students to enjoy their lunch on the Student Union Patio while journal writing or drawing each day! Students can also go on a short walk with a staff member for some "writer's inspiration" and to put in some exercise in between courses. Students need to bring their lunch each day and we supply the supervision and journals.

Volunteering

11th-12th Grade Students

(Not offered in summer 2021) Entering 11th-12th grade students can assist an instructor in the classroom this summer, while gaining volunteer hours!

Scholarships

Y.E.S. Academy may offer a limited amount of scholarships to eligible families (based on availability). Check back soon regarding any opportunities to apply for a scholarship.

Sponsoring Students

Are you a community member or business interested in sponsoring students to participate in Y.E.S. Academy? We welcome any donations to help support the tuition of Y.E.S. Academy students who are in need. All donated funds will be sent directly to our Southwestern College Y.E.S. Academy Foundation Fund, which will be applied to the tuition of students in need for the upcoming summer. We hope that you will consider joining us in supporting our local youth!
